In the same train of thought as yesterday, having vision also means you can make every discard count.
We often throw away the first tile on autopilot. Our minds still hesitating on the hand that just passed. But like the batting of a butterfly’s wings, that discard can pin you in to a situation that is less than ideal.
Let’s say those winds are not value tiles for you and the dora is the 9p. You throw out the 1p without much deliberation.
Your first draws are a lot of pinzu tiles, forming into this shape:
Just imagine if you hadn’t thrown that 1p and all the other draws has been the same.
Going back to the shape gained when drawing the 1p, it could be even worse if you draw the west. Now for your ideal half flush, straight shape wait - you’re furiten… (discarding the 8p). Or you take a less valuable hand and avoid furiten.
Lots of these small initial “mistakes” don’t really ever get scrutinised. A lot of it is down to luck. BUT if you needed this monster hand, you could have sketched that out from the draw and you’d more likely reach the destination with your planned route.
